Having worked as a program development director and country manager for a leading humanitarian organizations for the past 15 years, I have experienced the ever-growing need for enhanced engagement of national organizations in designing and implementing donor funded humanitarian programs. Over the years, the international development community has collectively come to understand that national NGOs and implementing partners are usually the most efficient actors to design, engage communities and deliver humanitarian assistance. National organizations have the strongest links with benefiting communities and their ability to reach and communicate to vulnerable groups make them irreplaceable partners in aid delivery. National NGOs have to continually adapt their organizational postures, system, policies, and procedures to align with partner or donor requirements and this can divert resources away from
strategic and organizational development that will improve their own sustainability beyond any single project. That is why we think it is a must to create an online assessment platform where they can explore their strengths and weaknesses; compare themselves to other similar NGOs, and most importantly find out what they need to do to improve to the level where they can receive funding from donors directly or partner with an International NGO.
